1. Paolo Cardini – Forget Multitasking, Try Monotasking

Paolo Cardini is a Product Designer and Educator who asks serious questions about how we live while answering them with whimsical and playful designs. For example, Cardini asked “How efficient is Multitasking?” and his response was to create the MONOtask project. In an attempt to help you deal with your overly multitasked life, Cardini has designed 3D-printed smartphone covers that “downgrade” your phone to be much dumber. One example has a compass on the back but it blocks all other ‘smart’ functions, including Google Maps, to allow you to focus on the task at hand and rediscover your sense of adventure.

2. Nilofer Merchant – Got A Meeting? Take A Walk

Nilofer Merchant is a Corporate Director and Author, who has been helping grow businesses from Fortune 500s to web startups for 20 years. In this talk she offers a small idea that could have a big impact on your life and health: Next time you have a one-on-one meeting, make it a “walking meeting” so your ideas can flow freely and your legs can move!

3. Kelly McGonigal – How To Make Stress Your Friend

Psychologist Kelly McGonigal translates academic research into practical strategies for health, happiness and personal success. Stress has been made into a public health enemy, however, new research suggests that the negatives aspects are psychosomatic, and stress may only be bad for you if you believe that to be the case. In this video, she encourages us to begin seeing stress more positively and introduces an unsung mechanism for stress reduction.

4. Arianna Huffington – How To Succeed? Get More Sleep

Arianna Huffington is the Co-Founder and former Editor-In-Chief of The Huffington Post. In this short talk, she shares a small idea that can awaken much bigger ones: the power of a good night’s sleep. Rather than boast about our sleep deficits, she urges us to embrace the potential increases in productivity, happiness as well as smarter decision-making that comes along with better sleep.

5. Jason Fried – Why Work Doesn’t Happen At Work

Jason Fried is the Co-Founder and CEO of Basecamp and author of New York Times bestseller, Rework. It’s a book that Salon’s Scott Rosenberg called “A minimalist manifesto that’s profoundly practical. In a world where we all keep getting asked to do more with less, the authors show us how to do less and create more.” In this video, Fried proposes a radical theory of working: that the office isn’t a good place to do it. He highlights the two main offenders and then offers up three suggestions to make the workplace…work.
